Here you can see the material held on Ancestry about Joseph Keetley born in Hathern in 1820 to William Keetley and Sarah Harrison. The Keetleys were a very long established Hathern family. After marrying Alice Mary Sturgess he moved to Melbourne Derbyshire and set up as a blacksmith employing three men and three boys before emigrating to Kaiapoi New Zealand on the ship 'Mystery', arriving December 1859, to set up a successful foundry. For a while we thought this was the connection to Kaiapoi cottages on Loughborough Road but we now know this link is  provided through sometime resident Charles Moody. Nevertheless, still interesting to note that the families of Joseph Keetley and brothers William and John Moody all left England for New Zealand in 1858 and ended up in or near Kaiapoi. Indeed they were re-united in death in Kaiaipoi cemetery. See interesting postscript at end of this article.

P.S. In February 2021 the following email was received from Susanne Keetley of Kaiapoi NZ :-

I am the great great granddaughter of Joseph and Alice Keetley and still live in Kaiapoi NZ . I do a bit of family history. I couldn’t figure out the connection between the Keetley and the Moody family’s , as they are buried In there own wee plot , separate from the rest of the cemetery. I was on the Hathern website and read the story about the Kaiapoi cottages So thank you very much for that. So not only are they in the same cemetery they have there own plot 💓 Descendent’s of both family’s still live Locally, notably one Joe Moody who is a current “All Black” ( NZ Ruby Team). Hopefully we will be able to travel again and I will get to see Hathern  for myself.

Attached to the email were the following photos of the gravestones :-
